A 34-year-old man was killed in a gruesome accident involving a goods lift at a sweet shop in Hisar town on Sunday, police said. The victim's neck was severed after it became trapped between the lift doors.
Victim identified as Jasbir from Kumbha Khera village
The deceased was identified as Jasbir, a resident of Kumbha Khera village in Hisar district. He had come to visit his relative Vijay, who worked at the shop. According to shop owner Anil Goyal, Jasbir arrived the previous day and Vijay asked him to stay overnight at the shop. The incident occurred on Sunday morning when Jasbir used the goods lift to bring down items from the second floor.
As Jasbir reached the second floor, his neck suddenly got trapped between the lift doors. The lift then jerked, severing his neck, which became entangled in the lift wires, killing him instantly. The rest of his body remained inside the lift.
Shop owner says lift meant only for goods
Anil Goyal stated that all regular workers used the staircase to move between floors, and the lift was intended solely for transporting goods. Jasbir was visiting the shop for the first time and likely used the lift without knowing the risks. Goyal and his son Deepak were away on work when the incident happened; only Vijay was present at the shop.
Father alleges foul play, demands inquiry
Rambir, the father of the deceased, suspected foul play in his son's death and demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident. He expressed doubts about the circumstances leading to the accident.
Police treat it as mishap, awaiting post-mortem
Hisar City police station SHO Amit Kundu said the incident appeared to be a mishap based on preliminary investigation. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and the exact circumstances will become clear after the report is received, he added. Police are also recording statements from the shop owner and workers to ascertain the sequence of events.
