Elderly Man Fatally Attacked Over Minor Land Dispute in Samastipur
A tragic incident unfolded in Samastipur district, Bihar, where a 68-year-old man, Surendra Sahni, was brutally beaten to death over a seemingly trivial 10-inch land dispute. The shocking event took place in the Jorapura Ward 6 area on Saturday, highlighting the severe consequences of property conflicts in rural regions.
Details of the Fatal Altercation
According to police reports, the victim, Surendra Sahni, had gone to collect grass in the fields when he was ambushed by his neighbour, Lalo Sahni, and other family members. The attackers allegedly used sticks, rods, and bricks in the assault, leading to Surendra's death. The family members of the victim rushed to the scene upon hearing the commotion, but the perpetrators had already fled, leaving Surendra lifeless.
The police were promptly informed and reached the spot to investigate. Patori SHO Shailesh Kumar stated that the body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination, and further action will be taken based on a written application from the deceased's family members.
Background of the Land Dispute
The family of Surendra Sahni alleged that there had been prior clashes with the accused over the land dispute, and a case had been registered at the Patori police station. Interestingly, both the victim's family and the accused are neighbours and distant relatives, adding a layer of complexity to the conflict. Surendra is survived by three sons and three daughters, all married, with the entire family residing in houses built on the same piece of land, underscoring the close-knit yet contentious living situation.
This incident serves as a grim reminder of how minor disputes can escalate into violent tragedies, especially in areas where land ownership is a sensitive issue. Authorities are urged to take swift action to ensure justice and prevent such occurrences in the future.
