A 26-year-old man allegedly strangled his girlfriend in a hotel room in Uttar Pradesh's Ambedkar Nagar district on Thursday evening, suspecting her of infidelity. After committing the crime, the accused consumed poison and subsequently informed the victim's mother and the police emergency helpline UP 112 that they had both ingested poison.
Police Response and Medical Findings
According to Ambedkar Nagar Superintendent of Police Prachi Singh, a police team rushed to the hotel and transported the couple to a community health centre, where doctors declared the woman, identified as Priya, dead. A medical examination revealed strangulation marks on her neck. The accused, Kuldeep Gaur, was later referred to the Government Medical College at Saddarpur for treatment and is now out of danger.
Relationship Background
Police investigations revealed that Kuldeep and Priya, aged 20, were neighbours in Ambedkar Nagar and had been in a relationship for three years. Kuldeep, who works at a shipping company in Mumbai, had recently returned home. He reportedly sent Priya Rs 10,000 every month as pocket money and for personal expenses.
Motive and Incident Details
According to police, Kuldeep had begun suspecting that Priya was communicating with another young man, leading to frequent arguments between the couple. On Thursday, he called Priya to a hotel, where they checked into a room around 5pm. An argument ensued over his suspicion, and in a fit of rage, Kuldeep strangled Priya.
The SP confirmed that the accused is undergoing treatment and that evidence has been collected from the hotel premises. Further investigation is underway.
