A man in Telangana allegedly killed six members of his family on Sunday after becoming enraged over a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case filed against him. The accused, identified as 35-year-old Ravi, later surrendered at the local police station, according to officials.
Incident Details
The massacre took place in the early hours of Sunday in the village of Nalgonda district, about 100 kilometers from Hyderabad. Ravi reportedly attacked his wife, two children, his brother, sister-in-law, and their young child with a sharp weapon while they were asleep. All six died on the spot.
Police said the accused had been living separately from his family for some time due to marital disputes. The POCSO case was filed by his wife's family, alleging that Ravi had sexually assaulted a minor relative. This led to his arrest and subsequent release on bail a week ago.
Sequence of Events
According to Superintendent of Police A. V. Ranganath, Ravi had been under stress since the case was filed. He reportedly consumed alcohol on Saturday night and then went to his brother's house, where his wife and children were staying. He attacked them with a machete, killing his wife (30), son (8), daughter (5), brother (28), sister-in-law (25), and their 2-year-old child.
After the attack, Ravi walked to the nearest police station and confessed to the crime. He was taken into custody and is being questioned.
Investigation and Reactions
Police have registered a case under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including murder. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination. Senior officials visited the spot and assured strict action.
"This is a heinous crime. The accused will be brought to justice," said SP Ranganath. The incident has shocked the local community, with residents expressing grief and anger.
The POCSO case against Ravi is still under investigation. Authorities are probing whether the family dispute escalated due to the legal proceedings.
