Man Kills Sleeping Brother with Iron Rod in Lucknow After Family Dinner Argument

In a shocking incident in Lucknow, a 30-year-old man allegedly murdered his younger brother by repeatedly attacking him with an iron rod while he was asleep in their family home in Banthra late Sunday night. The accused, identified as Sarvan Gautam, has been arrested by police following the brutal crime that has left the community in disbelief.

Drunken Argument During Dinner Escalates to Tragedy

According to police reports, the tragic events unfolded after the family had gathered for dinner. An argument broke out between Sarvan Gautam and his 24-year-old brother, Alok alias Golu, with both men reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time. The dispute turned physical when Sarvan allegedly pushed Alok, resulting in a minor head injury for the younger brother.

Family members intervened to pacify the situation, temporarily calming the brothers. Following the intervention, Sarvan went to sleep on the terrace of the house while Alok retired to a room inside the residence, seemingly ending the conflict for the night.

Brutal Attack While Victim Slept

Later that night, in a horrifying turn of events, Sarvan allegedly came downstairs from the terrace, picked up an iron rod that was kept in the house, and launched a sudden, violent attack on his sleeping brother. Police reports indicate he repeatedly struck Alok on the head with the iron rod, killing him on the spot in what appears to have been a premeditated assault.

The murder came to light early Monday morning when the brothers' mother went to wake up Alok and discovered the gruesome scene. The family, which had already suffered the loss of their father approximately eight years earlier, now faces another devastating tragedy.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Assistant Commissioner of Police Rajneesh Verma confirmed that the iron rod used to commit the crime had been recovered from the house as crucial evidence in the investigation. The accused initially fled the scene after the murder but was later apprehended by police near a canal culvert on the outskirts of the village.

The family comprised three brothers, two sisters, and their mother, making the violent loss particularly devastating for the household. Police continue to investigate the exact motives behind the attack, though initial reports suggest the earlier argument during dinner may have triggered the extreme violence.

This tragic incident highlights the devastating consequences that can result from family disputes escalating beyond control, particularly when alcohol is involved. The community remains in shock as authorities work to piece together the complete sequence of events that led to this brother-on-brother violence.
