Varanasi Man Confesses to Murdering Wife with Hand Pump Handle After Argument

A horrific domestic violence incident has shaken the Bichhiya Khurd village in Varanasi, where a man brutally murdered his wife using the handlebar of a hand pump following a heated argument. The crime occurred on Saturday night under the jurisdiction of the Sadar Kotwali police station area.

Body Discovered in Remote Forest Area

The victim, identified as 29-year-old Soni, was allegedly attacked by her husband, Gautam Kharwar, during a quarrel that escalated violently. Police reports indicate that Kharwar struck his wife's head repeatedly with the metal handlebar of a hand pump, causing fatal injuries.

In a calculated attempt to conceal his crime, Kharwar transported his wife's body to the remote Chandraprabha jungle in neighboring Chandauli district. He dumped the remains near Jalebiya Mod, a secluded location within the forest area.

Police Investigation and Arrest

The murder came to light on Sunday when Soni's sister became concerned after being unable to contact her sibling. She immediately alerted local authorities, prompting a police investigation.

Chandauli's Circle Officer (Sadar) Devendra Kumar provided details of the investigation on Monday. "When police reached the accused Gautam Kharwar's house and interrogated him, he initially tried to mislead our officers," Kumar stated. "However, under persistent questioning, he eventually confessed to his crime."

Following Kharwar's confession, police recovered Soni's body from the forest location on Sunday. Authorities have registered a murder case against Kharwar and placed him under arrest. The victim's body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death and gather forensic evidence.

History of Marital Discord

Police investigation has revealed that the couple had a troubled marriage since their union in 2020. According to statements from neighbors and family members, Soni and Gautam Kharwar quarreled frequently throughout their marriage.

The fatal incident occurred on Saturday evening when another argument erupted between the couple. Witnesses reported hearing raised voices from their residence before the situation turned violent. The hand pump handle, a common household item in rural areas, became the murder weapon in this tragic case.

Community Shock and Police Response

The brutal nature of the crime has sent shockwaves through the local community. Residents of Bichhiya Khurd village expressed disbelief at the violence that unfolded in their neighborhood.

Police officials have emphasized their commitment to thorough investigation and prosecution. "We have collected evidence from both the crime scene and the location where the body was dumped," said a senior police officer involved in the case. "The accused will face appropriate legal consequences for his actions."

This incident highlights ongoing concerns about domestic violence in rural communities and the need for increased awareness and intervention mechanisms to prevent such tragedies.
