A 56-year-old man allegedly molested a 37-year-old woman and then shot her with an illegal country-made pistol on Wednesday morning in Hamirpur district. Following the assault, the accused attempted to hang himself inside the victim's house, but police intervened and took him into custody.
Incident Details
The incident occurred in Dhundh Pur village under the Bharua Sumerpur police station area. According to police, the woman was cleaning her cattle shed around 5:30 AM when the accused, a fellow villager, began molesting her. When she resisted, he fired at her, with the bullet passing through her left shoulder.
The woman then pinned him down as he tried to reload the pistol. Hearing the gunshot, her family members rushed to the spot and overpowered the accused.
Suicide Attempt and Arrest
Fearing a beating from villagers, the accused locked himself inside a room of the victim's house and attempted to hang himself. Police arrived in time, broke down the door, and took him into custody along with the pistol.
CO Sadar Rajesh Kamal confirmed that the accused has been arrested and an investigation is underway.
