A man and his mother have been arrested in connection with the alleged dowry death of his wife in the Naugawa Sadat area of Amroha district, police confirmed on Tuesday.
Arrests Made in Dowry Death Case
The accused, identified as Sahil and his mother Afsana, had been absconding since the registration of the case. Circle officer Awadhbhan Singh stated that they were taken into custody after a sustained search. Raids are ongoing to trace the two remaining accused individuals, he added.
Details of the Incident
The case pertains to the death of 27-year-old Gulsitab, a resident of Ismailpur village in Bijnor district. She married Sahil on February 1 last year. On Sunday, she died under suspicious circumstances at her marital home in Bilna village, which falls under the Naugawa Sadat police limits.
Upon receiving information about her death, Gulsitab's family members rushed to the village and staged a protest, alleging that she had been subjected to harassment for dowry.
Legal Action Taken
Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s brother, police registered a case against Sahil, his mother Afsana, brother-in-law Abdullah, and a relative identified as Afsar. The charges were filed under sections 85 and 80(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act.
The body of the deceased has been sent for postmortem to ascertain the exact cause of death. Police are continuing their investigation and efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects.
