Man killed over house ownership dispute in Amritsar
A 26-year-old man, identified as Akashdeep Singh, was allegedly murdered by his father and stepmother at Jajjeani village under the jurisdiction of the Majitha police station in Amritsar. The police have arrested the accused, Malkeet Singh, and his second wife, Manjit Kaur, in connection with the case.
The police said efforts were underway to arrest the remaining accused, including the deceased’s stepbrothers, Jashandeep Singh and Gurpreet Singh, who have been absconding since the incident.
Property dispute triggered the murder
A property dispute is suspected to have triggered the altercation that led to the alleged murder. Akashdeep had recently returned home after being released on bail on July 3 in another criminal case. According to the police, he was allegedly attacked and killed by his father, Malkit Singh, with the assistance of his second wife and other family members following a dispute over ownership of their house.
The police said the accused allegedly disposed of the body by dumping it into a canal in an attempt to destroy evidence. Search operations were underway, but the body had not been recovered till the filing of this report.
Victim’s wife alerted police
The crime came to light after the victim’s wife, who was allegedly confined inside the house, managed to escape. She reportedly noticed bloodstains on the walls and floor and informed the police. The Majitha police subsequently registered a murder case and arrested the victim’s father and stepmother.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrested accused allegedly confessed that the victim was killed on Sunday night and that his body was later disposed of in a nearby canal. Investigators said the accused also attempted to destroy evidence by covering bloodstains on the walls with cement and washing the floor.
