Jaipur: A man was found murdered with his throat slit beneath Triveni Pulia in Jaipur’s Shipra Path area on Friday, with police suspecting the killing may have stemmed from an altercation during a late-night drinking session.
The blood-soaked body was discovered by labourers arriving at a nearby market around 6 am, triggering panic in the area. Police reached the spot after being alerted by local residents and launched an investigation.
The deceased was identified as Mahesh Jatav (30), a native of Shivpuri district in Madhya Pradesh. He worked as a labourer and lived in rented accommodation in Jaipur’s Triveni Nagar area.
Police said the murder is believed to have taken place Thursday between 9 pm and 10 pm beneath the flyover. The body was shifted to the SMS Hospital mortuary, and family members have been informed. A post-mortem examination will be conducted after their arrival.
Investigators inspected the crime scene and collected forensic evidence. CCTV footage from the surrounding area is being analysed.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Jatav arrived beneath the flyover with a group of acquaintances around 8 pm. Police said Jatav and several others consumed alcohol at the location. Liquor bottles and a water bottle were recovered from near the body.
Investigators suspect an argument broke out during the drinking session and escalated into a violent confrontation, during which Jatav was allegedly attacked with a sharp-edged weapon.
Police have begun questioning local residents and people who frequent the area. Officers are also examining whether Jatav purchased liquor before meeting the men believed to have been with him that night. The motive and identity of the attackers remain unknown.
