Man Plants Ganja at Woman's House After Rejection, Gets Remand

A local court in Ahmedabad on Tuesday granted three-day police remand of a 27-year-old Ghatlodia man who was arrested for allegedly planting ganja outside a woman's house after she refused to continue a relationship with him.

Arrest and Remand

The 27-year-old was arrested on Monday and produced before an additional chief judicial magistrate by Ghatlodia police, who sought 14 days' remand for further investigation. However, the court granted only three-day remand.

Woman's Complaint

According to the remand note submitted before the court, the case was registered after a woman from Parasnagar approached police stating that she found a plastic container with 166g of ganja near the entrance of her house on the morning of April 7. In her complaint, the woman said she had met the 27-year-old through social media and the two became friends. However, she later discovered that he was married and decided to end contact with him. She alleged that despite this, the 27-year-old continued following and harassing her, forcing her to earlier approach police with a complaint.

Suspicion and Evidence

The woman told investigators she suspected the man may have deliberately placed the contraband near her house in an attempt to falsely implicate her. Police said CCTV footage collected from the area allegedly showed the accused individual visiting the locality a few hours before the woman discovered the ganja packet.

Investigation Details

Investigators told the court that the 27-year-old was not cooperating during questioning and that they needed custodial interrogation to determine where he allegedly sourced the banned substance from. Police also informed the court that a test identification parade of the accused was yet to be conducted. The remand period will allow police to interrogate the accused regarding the source of the ganja and his motive behind planting it at the woman's residence.
