Gurgaon Police Arrest Man Posing as Sub-Inspector to Stay in Hotels, Avoid Toll
Man Posed as Police Officer in Gurgaon, Arrested for Fraud

Police in Gurgaon have arrested a 34-year-old man for pretending to be a police sub-inspector. The accused used this fake identity to stay in hotels and avoid paying toll taxes.

How the Fraud Unfolded

Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Kasni village in Jhajjar district, was arrested by Civil Lines police officials on Friday. The arrest followed a complaint from the manager of Shubham Hotel in Gurgaon.

According to police reports, Mukesh checked into the hotel on January 17. He wore a Haryana Police sub-inspector uniform and showed an Aadhaar card as identification.

Suspicious Behavior Leads to Capture

The hotel manager became suspicious when Mukesh returned after paying 600 rupees for his stay. He began asking unnecessary questions about the room.

"When questioned, the suspect became nervous and tried to run away," said a police officer. "Hotel staff overpowered him and handed him over to the police."

Fake Identity and Uniform

Police investigation revealed that Mukesh obtained a fake special police officer (SPO) identity card. He paid 500 rupees to a person in Jhajjar for this card.

He also got a police uniform stitched in Jharoda Kalan, Delhi, for 2,200 rupees. Police found him in an intoxicated state at the time of his arrest.

Travel Patterns and Motives

Mukesh frequently traveled between Jhajjar and Khatu in Rajasthan. He drove a rented e-rickshaw in Khatu.

He admitted to police that he used the fake police identity to intimidate people and gain unfair advantages. His main goals were avoiding toll taxes during his journeys and projecting influence.

Legal Proceedings and Evidence

Police have registered a case against Mukesh under relevant sections. From his possession, officers seized several items:

  • An Aadhaar card
  • A PAN card
  • The fake SPO ID card
  • The police uniform

Mukesh is a graduate and was produced before a Gurgaon court on Sunday. The court granted police a one-day remand for further investigation.

This incident highlights concerns about impersonation crimes in urban areas. Police urge citizens to verify official identities carefully when dealing with individuals claiming authority.
