A 45-year-old man was allegedly shot in the leg by two motorcycle-borne assailants at a roadside tea stall under Sector-1 City police station limits late on Sunday. The attack is believed to have stemmed from an old rivalry linked to a land dispute, police said.
Incident Details
The injured, identified as Jairam Prasad, a resident of Nadua in Chas, was sitting with friends at a tea stall near Shri Ram Temple around 10 pm when the accused arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire. A bullet struck his leg, causing panic in the busy market area before the assailants fled the scene.
Local residents alerted the police, prompting City DSP Alok Ranjan and City police station officer-in-charge Sudama Kumar Das to rush to the spot. Prasad was immediately shifted to Bokaro General Hospital in a PCR van. Doctors have stated that he is out of danger and is currently undergoing treatment.
Investigation and Suspects
Police have identified the main accused as Bhuttu, a resident of Sector-1. Investigators revealed that Prasad and the accused knew each other and were allegedly involved in the land business, strengthening suspicion that the attack was driven by a land dispute. “Law cannot be taken into one’s hands. Raids are underway and the accused will be arrested soon,” said DSP Alok Ranjan.
An FIR has been registered, but no arrests had been made as of late Monday. Police are examining CCTV footage from the area and questioning local residents as part of the ongoing investigation into the firing incident.
