A brutal late-night altercation in Mumbai's Ghatkopar area has resulted in a gruesome murder, with police swiftly arresting the alleged perpetrator within six hours of the crime. The incident, rooted in prior enmity, saw a 25-year-old man succumb to more than 25 stab wounds.
Swift Police Action After Brutal Attack
The Sakinaka police station registered the murder case after the fatal attack on Vishal Kokane (25) in the early hours of Sunday. According to officials, the incident occurred around 12.45 am opposite Shivprabhat building in Asalfa, Ghatkopar (East). The accused, identified as Ankush Singh (21), was apprehended from the Sakinaka area later the same day, with his mobile location data aiding the arrest.
Police revealed that both the victim and the accused were under the influence of alcohol when an argument escalated into a violent physical confrontation. In what officials described as a fit of rage, Singh allegedly launched a frenzied knife attack on Kokane. The entire episode was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the locality, providing crucial evidence.
A History of Violence and Personal Enmity
Investigations have uncovered that the two individuals were known to each other and shared a history of conflict. Six months prior to the murder, Kokane and his elder brother had allegedly assaulted Singh following a fight. This longstanding enmity over certain issues is believed to be the primary motive behind the deadly assault.
Further scrutiny into their backgrounds revealed extensive criminal records. The arrested accused, Ankush Singh, a resident of Shivprabhat building, already had two previous cases of assault registered against him at the Ghatkopar police station. The deceased, Vishal Kokane, who also lived in Asalfa with his family, had an even more serious record, with eight cases including assault, kidnapping, robbery, and attempt to murder registered against him at Sakinaka and Ghatkopar police stations.

The police have charged Ankush Singh with murder, and he is currently in custody. Authorities are continuing their investigation to piece together the final sequence of events and establish if any other individuals were involved.
