Miraculous Survival After Narmada Bridge Jump
In an extraordinary tale of survival, a 39-year-old man cheated death after jumping from the Narmada bridge connecting Barwani to Dhar district on Friday night. Hira Lal Barde, husband of a woman constable posted at Barwani, made a desperate leap from the bridge but managed to survive by clutching onto a tree branch throughout the night.
The Fateful Night and Rescue Operation
According to Barwani Kotwali in-charge Dinesh Kushwah, the incident occurred late Friday when Barde jumped into the waters below. The Kotwali police immediately alerted the SDERF (State Disaster Emergency Response Force) team, which rushed to the spot with specialized rescue equipment. However, the search operation had to be suspended due to darkness and poor visibility.
On Saturday morning, the SDERF team resumed their rescue mission with renewed determination. After an extensive day-long search covering nearly one kilometer downstream from the bridge, the rescue team made a startling discovery. Barde was spotted sitting on a tree amidst thick bushes along the riverbank, having spent approximately 12 hours in his precarious position.
The Dramatic Rescue and Medical Care
The rescue team quickly deployed a boat to reach the exhausted survivor. They carefully brought him down from the tree and transported him to the district hospital for thorough medical examination. Medical officials confirmed he was being evaluated for any injuries or trauma resulting from his overnight ordeal.
Police investigation revealed that after jumping from the bridge, Barde had immediate second thoughts about his drastic action. He attempted to swim in the deep river waters and fortunately encountered a tree along his path. Grabbing hold of a branch, he managed to pull himself to relative safety, where he remained until rescue teams located him the next day.
The Barwani police have launched a detailed investigation to determine the circumstances and reasons that prompted Barde to take such extreme measures. Authorities are examining all possible factors that might have led to this desperate act, while also ensuring the survivor receives appropriate psychological support and counseling.
