A 40-year-old man, along with his pet dog, was trapped inside a lift for 45 minutes at a commercial apartment in Lucknow on Sunday. The incident occurred at Saraswati Apartment in Gomti Nagar Extension, where Ranvijay Singh, a resident, was returning from a walk with his dog. The lift stopped midway while traveling from the ground floor to the sixth floor.
Emergency Systems Fail
Singh reported that the emergency alarm was non-functional, and no security guard was present nearby. He contacted the lift maintenance company, but the operator reportedly stated that the lift would be inspected on Monday, citing Sunday as a non-working day. Unable to get immediate help, Singh began banging on the lift door.
Rescue After 45 Minutes
After about 25 minutes, a passer-by heard his distress calls and alerted Singh's family and security staff. Two guards arrived and managed to open one of the lift doors after approximately 20 minutes of effort, leading to his rescue. Singh alleged that despite residents paying Rs 1,000 per month as maintenance charges, basic services like lift maintenance were being neglected.
RWA Response
Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA) secretary R K Singh said, “We were informed after the person was rescued. We have asked the firm to ensure emergency support. If such lapses continue, the association may discontinue its services.”
