Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A tragic incident occurred in Dhanora village of Sillod taluka, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar district, where a man and his two sons lost their lives after being buried under collapsed soil while working in a well under construction on Saturday night.
Victims Identified
The deceased have been identified as 49-year-old Bajirao Kakde and his sons, Adinath (26) and Sham (22). The trio was attempting to install precast RCC rings inside the well when the structure caved in, trapping them under the debris.
Sequence of Events
According to police officials, the three men had gone to their farm around 9:30 PM on Saturday to carry out the work. When they did not return home until midnight, family members grew concerned and began searching for them. Ravindra Thakare, in-charge of the Sillod rural police station, stated, "The family members found the collapsed well with soil all over and shouted for help."
Rescue operations were immediately launched, involving two heavy machines to remove soil and locate the trapped men. The first body, that of the father, was recovered around 3:40 AM on Sunday. The younger son was traced by 5:15 AM, and the elder son was found a couple of hours later. Thakare added that the bodies were sent for postmortem and later handed over to the family for last rites.
Details of the Well
The well, which was under construction, measured approximately 100 feet in diameter and was nearly 50 feet deep. Water was present at a depth of around 40 feet. Police suspect that loose soil in the area triggered the collapse. "The loose soil inside the well may have collapsed due to vibration from an electric pump or movement of the RCC rings," Thakare explained.
Legal Action
The Sillod rural police have registered a case of accidental death and are investigating the incident further.
