The tragic event occurred around 9 am as Sia Guleria was on her way to her college in Sarkaghat. According to police reports, she was ambushed and struck repeatedly on her head, neck, and hands with a sharp-edged weapon. The ferocity of the assault led to her instantaneous death at the scene. The assailant, identified as 36-year-old Vikas from the same village, fled immediately after the attack, seeking refuge in a nearby dense forest area.
Community Outrage and Swift Action
As news of the gruesome murder spread rapidly, it triggered a wave of anger and disbelief among local residents. Villagers from the Gopalpur panchayat, refusing to remain passive, took matters into their own hands. They organized a search party and successfully tracked down the accused, who was found hiding near a wheat field within the forest. Before handing him over to the authorities, the enraged crowd subjected him to a severe thrashing.
Police teams, led by the Station House Officer (SHO) and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), rushed to the crime scene upon being alerted by locals. Mandi Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar also arrived promptly with a forensic team to initiate the investigation. The accused, Vikas, has been formally arrested, and a murder case has been registered at the Sarkaghat police station.

Mandi SP Vinod Kumar provided an update on the ongoing investigation. "The police teams have meticulously collected evidence from the crime scene, and the accused is currently being interrogated. The victim's body has been sent to the Medical College and Hospital in Nerchowk for a comprehensive postmortem examination. We are confident of recovering the murder weapon soon and will produce the accused before a local court in the coming days," he stated.
Regarding the motive, the SP added, "The motive behind this heinous murder is still not entirely clear and is under active investigation." However, preliminary police sources indicate that the killing may have occurred after the victim rejected the accused's advances. Additionally, many locals have alleged that Vikas is a known drug addict, adding another layer of complexity to the case.

Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta described the killing as "heinous, inhuman, and deeply disturbing," emphasizing that such acts have no place in a civilized society.
