Mangaluru: The Mangaluru South police have successfully arrested an absconding accused and rowdy-sheeter who had been evading court proceedings for the past two years. The arrested individual has been identified as Mohammed Ashraf, also known by aliases Ajju, Nizam, Addu, and Sameer. He is a resident of Mavinakatte in Ajilamogru village, Belthangady taluk, Dakshina Kannada.
Background of the Accused
According to police officials, the accused was listed as a 'B' rowdy-sheeter at the Mangaluru South police station. He was wanted in multiple theft cases registered under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to punishment for theft. Despite several court appearances being scheduled, Ashraf failed to appear before the court in numerous cases, leading to the issuance of warrants against him.
Pending Cases and Warrants
City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH disclosed that Ashraf has three pending cases against him at the Mangaluru South police station. Additionally, a warrant had also been issued against him in connection with a case at the Uppinangady police station. The accused was also absconding in relation to a case registered at the Surathkal police station under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with punishment for theft.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
After being on the run for nearly two years, Ashraf was traced and apprehended by the officers and staff of the Mangaluru South police station on Tuesday. Following his arrest, he was produced before the court, which subsequently remanded him to judicial custody. The police have emphasized their commitment to ensuring that individuals who evade the law are brought to justice, and this arrest serves as a testament to their relentless efforts.
