Mangaluru Police Crack Rs 1.2 Lakh Theft Case in Swift 24-Hour Operation
In a display of rapid investigative prowess, the Mangaluru City police have successfully solved a significant cash theft case involving over Rs 1.2 lakh within just 24 hours. The authorities not only arrested the accused but also recovered the stolen cash, along with a two-wheeler and a mobile phone, in a meticulously coordinated operation that highlights their efficiency.
Details of the Theft Incident
The case unfolded when Mohammed Nizamuddin filed a complaint on February 7. According to his report, he had sold arecanuts belonging to Shridhara Alva at a shop located on Bibi Alabi Road and received Rs 1.2 lakh in cash. Nizamuddin placed the money on the dashboard of his mini pick-up truck and proceeded to Southern Agencies on JM Road, Bunder, to purchase ACP sheets. Upon returning to his vehicle, he was shocked to discover that the cash had been stolen from the dashboard.
Based on this complaint, a formal case was registered at the Mangaluru North police station under Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), setting the stage for an urgent investigation.
Swift Police Action and Arrest
Acting promptly, a special police team was assembled to tackle the case. This team, led by inspector Sachin Kumar and including sub-inspector Sheetal Alaguru, ASIs Shashidhara and Damodar, along with other staff from the Mangaluru North police station, sprang into action. Their efforts culminated in the arrest of the accused near Mannagudda Junction in Mangaluru city.
The arrested individual has been identified as Zakir Hussain, also known as Jackie, a 38-year-old resident of Kasaba Bengre, Mangaluru, who is currently staying near Jeppu Market in the same city. From his possession, the police recovered Rs 70,000 in cash, the two-wheeler used to commit the crime, and a mobile phone that was purchased using the stolen money. Following his arrest, Hussain was produced before the court, which subsequently remanded him to judicial custody.
Broader Criminal Connections Uncovered
Further investigation into the case revealed that Zakir Hussain has a more extensive criminal background. Police discovered that he was also involved in a house burglary case registered at the Kundapur police station. Additionally, he is linked to another case of cash theft from an autorickshaw within the jurisdiction of the Mangaluru South police station.
