Major Security Crackdown in Manipur: Multiple Arrests and Seizures Reported
In a significant series of coordinated operations, security forces in Manipur have successfully apprehended several active militants and recovered critical items, including an improvised explosive device and a substantial cache of alcoholic beverages. These actions underscore the ongoing efforts to maintain law and order in the northeastern state.
Arrests of Militant Cadres Across Districts
Officials confirmed the arrest of Khumanthem Santosh Meitei, a 36-year-old active cadre of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), also known by the alias Kanta. A resident of Heirok Part-I, Heituppokpi in Thoubal district, Meitei was apprehended from Kairembikhok Mamang Leikai Chingdum under Thoubal Police Station on Friday. During this operation, security personnel seized a mobile phone and two SIM cards from his possession.
In a separate incident, security forces detained Lunjakai Vaiphei, a 20-year-old active member of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA). Vaiphei was picked up from Matijang village under Churachandpur Police Station in Churachandpur district. Authorities recovered a country-made 9 mm pistol along with three live rounds from him during the arrest.
Recovery and Destruction of Improvised Explosive Device
Meanwhile, a potentially dangerous 10-kilogram cylindrical improvised explosive device (IED), fitted with a pressure mechanism, was discovered in the area between Sijang, a Kuki village, and Sanamahi Temple, a Meithei place of worship near Naga village in Lamna Kabui under Churachandpur district. The Bomb Disposal Team safely destroyed the IED in the presence of representatives from 2 JAKLI and the Churachandpur Police, preventing any potential harm.
Seizure of Alcoholic Beverages in Imphal West
On Saturday, Manipur Police conducted an operation in the jurisdiction of Sekmai Police Station in Imphal West district, resulting in the seizure of a large quantity of alcoholic beverages. The recovered items included 35 cans of beer, two bottles of McDowell’s No.1 (750 ml), 11 bottles of Old Monk (180 ml), four bottles of Old Monk (375 ml), two bottles of Old Monk (750 ml), one bottle of Shika Blue (375 ml), one bottle of Shika Blue (180 ml), and two bottles of McDowell’s No.1 (375 ml). This seizure highlights the enforcement of alcohol-related regulations in the region.
Additional Arrest of KCP Cadre
In another development, security forces arrested Khetics Thongbam, a 19-year-old active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP). Thongbam, a resident of Thangmeiband Meisnam Leikai in Imphal West, was apprehended from his residence. During the investigation, a mobile phone and an Aadhaar card were recovered from his possession, aiding in further inquiries.
