Maoist Commander with Rs 5 Lakh Bounty Neutralized in Chhattisgarh Encounter

In a significant development in the ongoing anti-Naxal operations, a Maoist commander identified as Rupi, who carried a bounty of Rs 5 lakh, was killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district on Monday. The incident marks a crucial success for security personnel in the insurgency-affected region.

Details of the Encounter Operation

The gunfight took place in a dense forested area under the jurisdiction of the Chhote Betia police station. Acting on precise and specific intelligence inputs regarding Maoist presence in the region, security personnel launched a targeted operation. This proactive measure led to a direct exchange of fire between the forces and the insurgents.

According to Superintendent of Police Nikhil Rakhecha, the body of the Maoist commander was recovered from the encounter site. Along with the body, security forces also seized a weapon, further crippling the operational capabilities of the Maoist cadre in the area.

Intensified Search Operations Underway

In the aftermath of the encounter, security forces have significantly intensified search operations in the surrounding forest areas. The objective is to ensure that no other insurgents are hiding nearby and to secure the region from potential threats. This thorough combing operation is part of a broader strategy to maintain pressure on Maoist elements and prevent any regrouping.

Context of Recent Anti-Naxal Operations

This encounter follows a similar operation last month in Chhattisgarh’s insurgency-hit Bijapur district. During that anti-Naxal operation along the Indravati river belt, two Maoists were killed. A joint team had launched the operation based on specific intelligence about Maoist presence in the Indravati river area in the Jangla region.

An exchange of fire broke out between security forces and Maoists during the combing operation in that forested stretch. Bijapur SP Jitendra Yadav confirmed that after the encounter, search operations led to the recovery of the bodies of two uniformed Maoists from the spot.

Security forces also seized a substantial cache of weapons, including an SLR rifle, an INSAS rifle, and a 12-bore rifle, along with explosives and other Maoist materials. These recoveries highlight the ongoing efforts to disrupt the supply chains and logistical support of the insurgents.

The consistent operations in Chhattisgarh underscore the determined efforts by security forces to combat Maoist insurgency in the region. The elimination of a commander with a significant bounty like Rupi is expected to deal a blow to the Maoist network, potentially weakening their organizational structure and morale.
