Massive Marijuana Bust in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: 53.4kg Seized, Three Arrested
In a significant crackdown on narcotics, the MIDC Cidco police in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar have seized a substantial quantity of marijuana, valued at approximately Rs 26.7 lakh, and arrested three individuals. The operation has also triggered a manhunt for an absconding accused from Odisha, who is believed to be a key supplier in the drug network.
Police Action and Zero-Tolerance Stance
Police Commissioner Pravin Pawar emphasized that this action stems from intensified surveillance against drug trafficking networks. "We have adopted a zero-tolerance approach towards drug-related offences. Such actions will continue, and those involved in trafficking will be dealt with strictly under the NDPS Act," he stated. An FIR has been registered under sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(C), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, highlighting the serious legal implications for the accused.
Details of the Arrests and Seizure
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
- Videsh Machre (38), a driver from Bhat Nagar in Naregaon
- Kishor Hatkar
- Rahul Malke
All are residents of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. According to Inspector Jadhav, the operation was based on a specific tip-off received by a police team dedicated to cracking down on drug peddlers. "We received information that the accused had arrived near Kakde Complex in Chhatrapati Nagar, Naregaon, with a large quantity of marijuana for sale. A trap was laid, and the suspect was intercepted at the spot," he explained.
During the search, police recovered 53.441 kilograms of marijuana (cannabis) from a white car, with an estimated value of Rs 26,72,050. The vehicle itself, worth around Rs 5 lakh, was also seized, bringing the total value of the haul to Rs 31,72,050. Preliminary investigations suggest that the contraband was procured in bulk and intended for local distribution.
Ongoing Investigation and Network Probe
The police are actively probing the broader network involved in this drug trafficking case. Inspector Jadhav added, "We are verifying the source of supply and identifying the network involved. The role of the absconding accused is crucial." Authorities are also investigating the potential involvement of a Jalgaon native, while the search for the key supplier from Odisha continues. Further investigation is being carried out by Assistant Inspector Kailash Lahane, with efforts focused on dismantling the entire supply chain and preventing future illicit activities.
