Masked Assailant Shoots Woman in Jharsuguda Home Invasion; Police Launch Manhunt
A shocking incident of violence unfolded in Jharsuguda, Odisha, when a 30-year-old woman was critically injured after an unidentified masked assailant barged into her house and opened fire. The attack occurred in the Sarbahal Talipada area on Friday night, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Victim Identified as Biswabijayini Jena
Jharsuguda police have identified the victim as Biswabijayini Jena, who lives in a rented accommodation with her husband, Dhirendra. According to police reports, the incident took place around 9:30 pm when Dhirendra had just returned home and went to the kitchen to fetch drinking water. Jena was in her bedroom at the time.
The assailant, described as masked and unidentified, entered the house, fired a single bullet at Jena, and fled the spot immediately. The victim sustained a gunshot injury on her right upper thigh.
Emergency Medical Response and Investigation
Jena was rushed to the Jharsuguda Satellite Hospital for initial treatment. Due to the severity of her injuries, she was later referred to Vimsar in Burla and subsequently taken to Cuttack for advanced medical care. Police officials have stated that her condition is now stable.
Jharsuguda Superintendent of Police G R Raghavendra provided details on the ongoing investigation. "The incident was reported around 9:30 pm and thereafter, the SDPO and the IIC reached the spot," he said. "The victim sustained a gunshot injury on her right upper thigh. Her condition is stable. The motive behind the attack is still unknown and an investigation is underway."
Police Launch Manhunt for Accused
Authorities have launched a comprehensive manhunt to trace the accused. The investigation is focusing on identifying the masked assailant and determining the motive behind this brazen attack.
Sources reveal that Dhirendra is originally from Sambalpur and had been living in Jharsuguda with his wife for the past three months for work purposes. This detail adds another layer to the investigation as police explore all possible angles.
