A masked gang launched a vicious sickle attack in Nettur village near Alangulam in Tenkasi district on Friday evening, leaving six people injured. According to police, the assailants, wearing masks, arrived on the main road and indiscriminately attacked villagers using sickles. They also vandalized two-wheelers and four-wheelers parked along the roadside before fleeing the scene.
Injured Shifted for Treatment
The six injured individuals were immediately rushed to the primary health centre in Nettur village and later transferred to the Alangulam government hospital for advanced medical care. Police personnel reached the spot and initiated investigations. Family members of the victims staged a protest demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible for the attack.
Preliminary Investigation Reveals Wedding Dispute
Police sources disclosed that preliminary investigations suggest the attack stemmed from a dispute during a marriage function held in the village on Thursday. Special teams have been formed to apprehend the perpetrators. Heavy police deployment has been made in the village to maintain law and order and prevent further incidents.
Related Attack in Tirunelveli
In a separate incident, a gang assaulted two individuals in Therkkupatti village in Tirunelveli district after they were questioned for driving two-wheelers rashly. The injured were admitted to Tirunelveli Government Medical College Hospital. The Tirunelveli district police arrested four suspects involved in this attack. During interrogation, it was discovered that the same individuals were also involved in the attacking spree in Nettur village in Tenkasi district. Further investigation is underway.
