In a massive security operation for New Year's Eve, the Bengaluru City Police will deploy a staggering 20,000 police personnel across the city to ensure safe and orderly celebrations. The elaborate security blueprint, announced by Police Commissioner B. Dayananda, covers key party hubs, traffic management, and stringent checks to prevent untoward incidents.
Unprecedented Security Arrangements for the Festive Night
The security plan is one of the most extensive in recent years for the city's New Year festivities. Commissioner Dayananda stated that the force is leaving no stone unturned to maintain law and order. The deployment includes personnel from various units of the city police, and they will be strategically positioned at all vital locations.
Areas like MG Road, Brigade Road, Church Street, Indiranagar, Koramangala, and the bustling pubs and restaurants in these localities will see a particularly heavy police presence. The focus will be on crowd control, preventing drunken brawls, and ensuring the safety of women and revellers.
Traffic Restrictions and Drone Surveillance
To manage the expected vehicular chaos, the police have outlined specific traffic regulations for December 31st. Major roads in the central business district and entertainment zones will have restrictions, and parking will be heavily regulated. The police advise the public to use public transport like the Metro to avoid inconvenience.
Adding a technological edge to the security blanket, the police will employ drone surveillance over crowded areas to monitor the situation from the sky. This will help in identifying congestion points and any suspicious activities. Additionally, 1,500 CCTV cameras across the city will be actively monitored from the command centre.
Strict Checks and Safety Directives
The police have issued stern warnings against drink-driving and reckless behaviour. Numerous checkpoints will be set up across the city to conduct breathalyser tests. Commissioner Dayananda emphasised that strict legal action will be taken against those found driving under the influence of alcohol.
Hotels, pubs, and restaurants hosting parties have been instructed to adhere to permitted timings and ensure they do not violate any licensing norms. The police have also urged citizens to cooperate with the personnel on duty and report any suspicious activity immediately by dialling 112.
A Call for Responsible Celebrations
The overarching message from the police is to celebrate responsibly. While the force is geared up to facilitate a joyous atmosphere, the onus is also on citizens to act responsibly. The massive deployment aims to deter anti-social elements and provide a sense of security to the thousands who will step out to welcome 2025.
With these comprehensive measures, the Bengaluru Police aim to ensure that the New Year transition is smooth, secure, and memorable for all the right reasons. Citizens are advised to plan their travel, stay updated on traffic advisories, and welcome the new year with cheer and caution.
