Mau Police Seizes 18.49 Kg Charas, Arrests Two Smugglers

In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Mau district police in Uttar Pradesh apprehended two alleged drug smugglers, including a woman, and confiscated a massive haul of charas valued at approximately Rs 9 crore. The operation, which unfolded on Tuesday, thwarted an attempt to transport the contraband, sourced from Nepal, to destinations in western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Major Haul and Arrests Following Tip-Off

Acting on specific intelligence regarding the movement of drug peddlers, a coordinated team swung into action. Mau Superintendent of Police Elamaran G stated that the operation was launched based on a crucial tip-off. A joint force comprising personnel from the Special Operations Group (SOG), Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, and the local Kotwali police station conducted a targeted raid in the Ramleela Maidan area.

The swift and precise raid led to the immediate arrest of the two accused. They have been identified as Imam Ali, a resident of Moradabad, and Najma, who hails from West Bengal. According to police officials, both individuals were acting as carriers for the illicit drug network.

Interrogation Reveals Nepal Link and Destination

During subsequent interrogation, the arrested duo disclosed critical details about the smuggling operation. The police revealed that the 18.490 kilograms of charas had been procured from neighbouring Nepal. The narcotic substance was meticulously packed in 16 separate polybags for transportation.

Their intended destinations were uncovered during the investigation. The accused were allegedly attempting to transport this high-value consignment to Moradabad and a district in Uttarakhand. This interception has prevented a large quantity of drugs from reaching consumers and causing societal harm.

Police Vow to Unravel Entire Smuggling Network

Superintendent of Police Elamaran G emphasized that this arrest is just the beginning of a deeper probe. He confirmed that investigative efforts are actively underway to trace and expose the entire drug-smuggling network connected to the arrested carriers. The police are determined to identify the higher-ups, suppliers, and other links in this cross-border narcotics chain operating between Nepal and Uttar Pradesh.

This successful operation by the Mau police highlights the ongoing vigilance of Uttar Pradesh law enforcement against the scourge of drug trafficking. It marks a substantial seizure that deals a financial and operational blow to the smugglers, aiming to disrupt the supply line of narcotics in the region.
