Mother's Grief Erupts in Meerut Court During Blue Drum Murder Hearing
Chaotic and emotionally charged scenes unfolded outside a district court in Meerut on Tuesday as the mother of murder victim Saurabh Rajput broke down while confronting the accused in the notorious "blue drum" murder case. The dramatic confrontation highlighted the deep personal tragedy behind this high-profile criminal proceeding that has captured nationwide attention.
Emotional Confrontation in Court Premises
Renu Devi, the grieving mother of Saurabh Rajput, cried out in anguish as the accused—Rajput's wife Muskan Rastogi and her alleged lover Sahil Shukla—were brought to court under tight security. "Wo Rs 50,000 deta tha, fir bhi maar diya (He gave her Rs 50,000 every month. Still, they killed him)," she lamented, her voice echoing through the court premises with raw emotion.
The former Merchant Navy officer was brutally murdered on March 4, 2025, in a crime that shocked the nation with its extreme brutality. According to police investigations, the accused allegedly stabbed Rajput, dismembered his body, and then sealed the remains inside a cement-filled blue drum in an attempt to destroy evidence.
Tight Security for Court Proceedings
The two accused were produced before the district court from Chaudhary Charan Singh District Jail, remaining present for approximately 45 minutes during the hearing. Court officials confirmed that Sahil Shukla was brought into the courtroom first and questioned for about 20 minutes, followed by Muskan Rastogi, who was examined for around 15 minutes.
Muskan, wearing a black mask, was observed carrying her young daughter as she exited the police vehicle and entered the court premises. The trial is being conducted in the court of District and Sessions Judge Anupam Kumar, with the proceedings drawing significant public and media attention.
Family's Demand for Justice
As the accused were brought to court, Rajput's mother Renu Devi and brother Rahul were present, with the mother repeatedly demanding the death penalty for those responsible for her son's killing. "The family has been completely shattered since this brutal murder," she declared, her emotional outbursts underscoring the profound loss experienced by the victim's family.
According to district government counsel Krishna Kumar Chaube, statements from 22 witnesses have been recorded so far in the ongoing trial, with the process of examining the accused currently underway. The case was originally registered at Brahmpuri Police Station, with investigators later filing a chargesheet against both Muskan and Sahil after completing their investigation.
Background of the Gruesome Crime
Police investigations revealed that the murder was carried out inside the couple's own home, after which the body was mutilated and concealed in the blue drum. This method of attempting to destroy evidence added an extra layer of horror to an already brutal crime, contributing to the nationwide outrage that followed the discovery of the murder.
With the trial progressing steadily and witness testimonies being systematically recorded, the case continues to draw intense public attention. The combination of the crime's gruesome nature and the emotional appeals from the victim's family has created a powerful narrative that resonates far beyond the courtroom walls.
The proceedings represent not just a legal process but a quest for justice for a family torn apart by violence, with each court hearing bringing renewed focus to the human tragedy at the heart of this criminal case.
