Meerut Police Achieve Breakthrough in Gruesome Mustard Field Murder Case
In a significant development, police in Mawana, Meerut, announced on Thursday that they have cracked a chilling murder case involving a 36-year-old woman. The victim's body was discovered in a mustard field near the Meerut-Bijnor highway on February 21, setting off an intensive investigation.
Intensive Investigation Leads to Arrests
Following the grim discovery, authorities formed a specialised team to pursue the case. The body had been disfigured with acid in an apparent attempt to prevent identification, complicating initial efforts. Undeterred, investigators meticulously analysed over 500 CCTV footage feeds from the surrounding area.
This digital scrutiny, combined with strategic raids, ultimately led to the arrest of four individuals. The apprehended suspects include a hotel owner named Chanchal Kumar, along with Gurmukh, Sandeep, and Vivek. Police also seized crucial evidence, including a car, a blanket allegedly used to suffocate the victim, and an empty acid bottle.
Motive Revealed: Financial Dispute and Threats
Investigations uncovered that the murder stemmed from a heated dispute. The altercation reportedly involved financial transactions at the hotel owned by Chanchal Kumar and was fueled by alcohol. The situation escalated when the victim, a resident of Ambala who was friendly with the accused and frequently visited their hotel, allegedly threatened the group with filing a "fake rape case."
This threat purportedly led the accused to conspire and execute the killing. Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural) Abhijeet Kumar confirmed the details, stating that the woman's relationship with the accused was a key factor in the case.
Legal Action and Charges Filed
An First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the four accused under specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include Section 103 (1) for murder and Section 238 for destruction of evidence. These legal measures underscore the severity of the crime and the police's commitment to securing justice.
The breakthrough highlights the effectiveness of modern investigative techniques, such as CCTV analysis, in solving complex cases. The community and authorities hope this arrest brings some closure to the tragic incident that shocked the region.
