Meerut Student Found Dead in Sugarcane Field, Family Alleges Rape

A 20-year-old female student pursuing a Bachelor of Arts (BA) second year was discovered dead in a sugarcane field under the jurisdiction of Rohta police station in Meerut district on Sunday. She had been missing since Thursday, when she left home to attend a college examination. Her family has alleged that she was kidnapped, raped, and subsequently murdered.

Incident Details

The victim had not returned home after her exam on Thursday, prompting her family to file a missing person report. Three days later, her body was found in a sugarcane field near her village. The family has accused a man from a neighboring village of being the prime suspect, along with two associates.

Police Statement

Meerut Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Avinash Pandey provided details from the initial investigation. During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to meeting the victim on the day she disappeared. He claimed that after checking her phone, he discovered chats with another young man, which enraged him. In a fit of anger, he killed her.

Family's Account

The victim's father stated that the main accused had allegedly attempted to kidnap his daughter two years ago. Since then, he and his associates had been continuously stalking and harassing her. Villagers had intervened at that time to broker a compromise between the families. The father added that his daughter was so terrified of the accused that she stopped attending college and only recently resumed classes to appear for her final examinations.

Investigation and Legal Action

SSP Pandey confirmed that appropriate sections of the law will be applied in the First Information Report (FIR) after receiving the medical report. The police are investigating all angles, including the possible involvement of the two other associates named by the family. The medical report is awaited to confirm the exact cause of death and any evidence of sexual assault.

Authorities have registered a case and are conducting a thorough investigation. The accused remains in custody, and further details are expected as the probe progresses.
