A dramatic scene unfolded in the heart of Bhopal on Monday when a man, in a state of mental distress, climbed onto a key city landmark, bringing traffic to a halt and triggering a swift police response. The incident sent waves of panic through the area and quickly became a viral sensation on social media.
Chaos on the Arch Bridge
The location of the alarming event was the prominent Arch Bridge built over the Lower Lake. Around 12:30 pm on Monday, passersby were shocked to see a man, reported to be mentally challenged and in a semi-nude state, clambering onto the iron girders of the bridge. His precarious balancing act high above the water immediately drew attention, causing commuters to stop their vehicles to watch the unfolding drama.
Traffic movement on the crucial bridge slowed to a crawl as onlookers not only watched but also pulled out their mobile phones to record the bizarre situation. Videos capturing the man recklessly flailing his arms while perched dangerously on the girder soon spread like wildfire across various social media platforms.
Swift Police Action and Rescue
Alert citizens quickly dialed the emergency number 112, prompting an immediate response. Teams from the Talaiya police station and the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) rushed to the spot. According to Talaiya police SHO Deepak Dehariya, the police personnel engaged the man in conversation upon arrival.
