Migrant Labourer Faces Brutal Attack After Fleeing Brick Kiln in Andhra Pradesh
A shocking case of alleged brutality has emerged from Andhra Pradesh. A 50-year-old migrant labourer from Odisha faced a horrific ordeal after he tried to leave a brick kiln where he was working.
The Victim's Plight and FIR Details
Bidhyadhar Majhi, a resident of Junapani Khaliabhatta village in Nuapada district, filed a formal complaint at Khariar police station last Friday. He narrated a terrifying sequence of events in his First Information Report.
Majhi had travelled to Andhra Pradesh for work three months ago. He, along with his son Ajay and several other villagers from his area, started working at a brick kiln owned by a man named A R Madhab. The kiln is located in the Alanam area.
They had received some advance payments through a local middleman identified as Hitesh Kumar. After working for some time, Majhi's son returned home to Odisha. Later, Majhi himself decided to leave the worksite.
The Abduction and Brutal Assault
Majhi boarded a train from Secunderabad, heading towards Visakhapatnam. However, agents working for the brick kiln owner discovered he had left.
On December 20 last year, they tracked him down at a railway station near Srikakulam. When Majhi tried to run away, the men caught him. They then dragged him to a nearby transformer.
The assailants allegedly gave him electric shocks. In a further act of cruelty, they poured a flammable substance on him and set him on fire. They left him burning at the scene and fled.
Reports indicate Majhi suffered extensive burns covering about 70 percent of his body.
Rescue and Hospitalisation
Railway police personnel rescued the severely injured labourer. They rushed him to a government hospital in Srikakulam for emergency treatment.
Authorities informed his family members about the incident. On December 23, his relatives brought him back to Odisha. He was admitted to the district headquarters hospital in Nuapada.
After receiving medical treatment and being discharged, Majhi formally lodged his police complaint detailing the entire attack.
Police Investigation Underway
Police authorities have confirmed they are looking into the serious allegations. D K Sahu, the inspector in-charge of Khariar police station, provided an update on the case.
"We have received the complaint and have started our inquiry," stated Inspector Sahu. "After our probe, further action will be taken based on the findings."
The case highlights the vulnerabilities faced by migrant workers in certain industries. It raises serious questions about labour practices and the safety of workers far from their home states.
