Jamshedpur: Police on Sunday arrested a 16-year-old boy for allegedly killing his 17-year-old girlfriend following a heated argument over their wedding plans. The arrest came a day after the body of the minor girl was discovered on the campus of a government middle school in the area.
Details of the Incident
According to the local police station in-charge, the boy allegedly strangled the girl to death when she refused to agree to his proposal to wait until adulthood for marriage. Instead, she insisted that he marry her soon. Both individuals were underage, police confirmed.
The accused had advised the girl to wait until they attained adulthood before marrying. However, during the discussion, the girl’s repeated pressure to marry immediately angered him, leading to the tragic crime.
Investigation and Arrest
The accused was traced and apprehended based on his mobile location. The girl was from his adjoining village. Police stated that the couple had entered the deserted school campus in the evening, where the incident took place. The accused has been forwarded to a remand home.
Notably, the city police had recovered the body of the minor girl from a school ground early on Saturday. Prima facie, the unidentified girl appeared to have been strangled, though police were also probing whether she was sexually exploited before the murder. SP (city) Lalit Meena told the media, “Until the post-mortem report arrives, it is difficult to conclude about the rape angle.”
Forensic Evidence
Police sources revealed that the dog squad and Forensic Science Laboratory team collected vital trace materials from the crime scene to aid the investigation.
Authorities are awaiting the post-mortem report to determine the exact cause of death and to clarify any potential sexual assault. The case highlights the need for addressing teenage relationships and conflict resolution.
