Minor road altercation in Gorakhpur leads to car burning

Gorakhpur: A minor altercation over giving way on a narrow village road turned violent in Gorakhpur’s GIDA area late Monday, leaving a car driver injured and his vehicle reduced to ashes following an alleged attack by motorcycle-borne youths.

Incident Details

The incident occurred at Nagwa village under the GIDA police station limits. According to police, Nandan Pandey, who drives a rented car to earn a livelihood, was returning home when he encountered a group of youths riding a bike in a narrow lane. An argument reportedly erupted over who should give way first.

Eyewitnesses said the heated exchange quickly escalated, with the accused allegedly dragging Nandan out of the car and assaulting him. They then smashed the car windows and set the vehicle ablaze. Within minutes, the car was engulfed in flames, creating panic among locals.

Response and Arrests

Hearing Nandan’s cries, nearby villagers rushed to the spot and intervened, prompting the accused to flee. The injured driver was later admitted to a hospital.

Following the complaint, GIDA police launched a late-night search operation and detained two accused — Kapil Singh and Vishal Singh, both residents of Nagwa village.

GIDA circle officer Yogendra Singh said raids are underway to arrest the remaining accused.

Authorities have urged locals to remain calm and assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible.
