A 61-year-old industrialist from Salisbury Park in Pune, who had been reported missing since Friday, was discovered dead in a hotel room on Apte Road in the Deccan area on Saturday afternoon. The businessman's family had filed a missing person complaint with the Swargate police on Friday evening after he failed to return home and stopped answering phone calls.
Discovery by Hotel Staff
The discovery was made after hotel staff alerted authorities. Senior Inspector Girisha Nimbalkar of Deccan Gymkhana police station stated, 'On Saturday afternoon, we received a call from the hotel reporting that a guest who checked in on Friday was not responding to knocks. Our team arrived, entered the room, and found the industrialist dead. There were signs of vomiting in several areas of the room.'
Suspected Suicide
Police suspect the industrialist may have ingested a poisonous substance. 'Based on the circumstances, it appears to be a case of suicide. We have registered an accidental death report and are investigating further,' Nimbalkar added. The deceased had business interests in multiple sectors, including textiles and sugar mills.
Note Found in Room
During the search of the hotel room, investigators recovered a note purportedly written by the industrialist. 'The note mentions financial distress and other personal issues. We are currently examining the details with the help of his relatives and those familiar with his financial transactions,' the inspector said.
Timeline of Events
According to the Swargate police, the industrialist left his residence on Friday morning. When he became unreachable, his family searched across the city before eventually approaching the police for assistance. The investigation is ongoing.
