In a significant crackdown on narcotics, Mizoram Police have seized a staggering quantity of drugs during 2025, as revealed by Home Minister K Sapdanga in the state legislative assembly on Monday. The haul includes 79.208 kg of heroin, 964.428 kg of methamphetamine, and 38.801 kg of crystal meth, highlighting the scale of the drug menace in the region.

Details of the Drug Seizure

Home Minister K Sapdanga provided this information in a written reply to a question from three members of the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM). He detailed that the drug seizure during this period also encompassed 3,000 kg of caffeine, 4.51 kg of opium, and 64.267 kg of cannabis. Additionally, clinical drugs widely abused by the youth of the state were confiscated, underscoring the diverse nature of the substances involved.

Operation Jericho: A Strategic Anti-Drug Initiative

Emphasizing the urgent need to combat drug trafficking from Myanmar, Sapdanga announced the launch of Operation Jericho on September 1, 2025. This anti-drug war has been extended until the end of March to intensify efforts against the illicit trade. Since its inception, Operation Jericho has led to the seizure of drugs worth Rs 317.30 crore, demonstrating its effectiveness in disrupting trafficking networks.
