A police team came under attack by a mob after it raided a village in Giridih district to arrest an alleged cybercriminal late on Wednesday. A few cops sustained minor injuries in the incident, which took place in Chiksoria village under Ahilyapur police station limits. The cybercriminal, who took advantage of the chaos and fled the scene, remained at large till Thursday evening. No arrests were made till the time of filing the report.
Details of the Incident
Acting on a tip-off, a team from Giridih cyber police station raided Chiksoria village to arrest Churaman Mandal. A resident of Chamaliti village, Mandal was staying at his in-laws' house in Chiksoria. As the team closed in, Mandal and his associates mobilised the locals and used them as human shields to evade arrest. What started as a protest turned violent as villagers hurled stones at the team. A police vehicle was damaged in the attack. Mandal fled the scene in the ensuing chaos.
Police Response
Ainul Haq Khan, the officer-in-charge of Ahilyapur police station, said, “The team came under attack from the relatives of the accused and villagers. A case has been registered against seven named individuals and 20 unidentified persons. Efforts are on to arrest the absconding accused and those involved in the attack.” The window pane of the police vehicle was damaged in stone pelting.
This incident highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement in rural areas where locals may be incited to obstruct legal proceedings. The police are continuing their investigation and search for the accused.
