Ballari: Mobile phones and SIM cards were recovered from five convicts during inspections conducted by officials at Ballari Central Prison. Two separate First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered at Brucepet police station in connection with the case.
Inspections Reveal Violations
The violations came to light during inspections carried out in jail barracks on May 2 and May 17. In his complaint, jailer Ashok Hosamani stated that inmates using mobile phones in violation of prison rules were identified and electronic devices were seized from them.
Details of Seizures
According to the FIR, a Nokia keypad phone, a Samsung mobile phone, and a SIM card were seized from convict Bojaraj. One Nokia keypad phone and an Airtel SIM card were found with Raju Mandal. Another Nokia keypad mobile phone was seized from Tippeswamy.
During patrol in Barrack No. 4, guards found a Motorola keypad phone with Sharanappa. An HMD mobile phone was also found with Shivakumar BR, the FIR stated.
The authorities have registered separate cases and investigations are underway to determine how the contraband items entered the prison premises.
