Mohali Court Delivers Verdict in 2023 Homicide
A district and sessions court in Mohali has delivered a significant verdict, convicting a man named Ajay for the murder of his co-worker in a case that dates back to 2023. The court found him guilty under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The crucial hearing to determine the quantum of his punishment is now set for Thursday.
The Tragic Incident and Police Complaint
The case originated on February 7, 2023, when authorities from the civil hospital alerted the Balongi police about the death of a young man, Rajveer. The victim had succumbed to critical head injuries. Following this, Rajveer's brother, Vijay, filed a formal complaint with the police.
In his complaint, Vijay alleged that the murder was committed by their co-worker, Ajay. The tragic incident took place at a bungalow located in Mohali's TDI Sector 117, where all three individuals were employed as painters.
Weapon Recovery and Investigation Breakthrough
During the subsequent police interrogation, the accused, Ajay, made a critical admission. He confessed to hiding the weapon used in the crime. He led the investigators to an iron rod that he had concealed in a storeroom.
The police successfully recovered the iron rod, which bore visible bloodstains, linking it directly to the violent act. This recovery became a pivotal piece of evidence in the investigation, ultimately strengthening the case against the accused.
Awaiting the Final Sentence
With the conviction now secured, the focus shifts to the upcoming court session. The judge is expected to announce the sentence for Ajay on Thursday, bringing a measure of closure to a case that has been ongoing for over a year. The conviction underscores the effectiveness of the police investigation and the judicial process in addressing serious crimes.
