In a significant blow to organized crime networks operating in the region, the Mohali Police, in a joint operation with the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), conducted a series of seven armed encounters throughout the year 2025. This sustained crackdown resulted in the arrest of ten gangsters and the neutralization of one dreaded criminal, significantly disrupting extortion and violence rackets.
Zero-Tolerance Stance Against Gangster Networks
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harmandeep Singh Hans emphasized that the district police adopted a firm, zero-tolerance policy towards organized crime. The majority of the individuals apprehended or engaged were found to have links with the notorious Goldy Brar and Lawrence Bishnoi gang. According to police investigations, these gangsters were primarily involved in running extortion rackets, carrying out targeted firing incidents, and threatening local businessmen to establish their criminal dominance in Mohali and surrounding areas.
SSP Hans stated, "Mohali Police has taken firm and lawful action against gangsters who were spreading fear through extortion and gun violence. Our priority has been to protect innocent citizens and business owners. Anyone attempting to disrupt peace will face strict police action." He added that all police actions were taken following due legal process, based on specific intelligence, with teams demonstrating courage and professionalism.
Chronicle of Key Police Operations in 2025
The year-long operation saw multiple strategic strikes against gangster elements. The first major encounter of the year occurred on March 1, when police confronted a key operative of the Goldy Brar gang. This was followed by another encounter involving a member named Kartik near Gholumajra village on April 16.
After sustained surveillance, police arrested Sumit, an associate of the Bishnoi gang, on August 5. The crackdown intensified towards the year's end. On November 12, gang members Sharanjit and Aman, linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar syndicate, were shot and injured in an exchange of fire with police while trying to evade arrest.
Subsequent actions included the arrest of a wanted gangster, Satinder, on November 17, and another encounter on November 27 involving accused Harvinder and Sameer, who opened fire on a police party. The year culminated in a decisive operation on December 17, which led to the death of gangster Harpinder after he fired at police personnel.
Restoring Public Confidence and Future Vigilance
The police stated that these encounters, which resulted in injuries to several accused, helped prevent major crimes and were instrumental in restoring public confidence. The timely interventions sent a strong signal to criminal networks about the police's resolve.
Officials reiterated that surveillance on gangster networks is ongoing. Further action will be taken to dismantle extortion modules operating from within Punjab and outside the state. The police remain committed to ensuring the safety of citizens and businesses from the threats of organized crime and gun violence.
