Mother and Son Arrested for Alleged Murder of Daughter Over Interfaith Relationship in Uttar Pradesh
In a shocking case from Uttar Pradesh, Ghazipur police have arrested two individuals, including a woman and her son, on charges of killing her 19-year-old daughter. The arrests were made near the village Tikri turn on Monday evening as the suspects were allegedly planning to escape. The police identified the arrested as Afsana, 48, and her son Afsar, 26.
Discovery of the Body and Initial Investigation
The body of Farzana, daughter of Imam Kha and a resident of Paigampur Bakri village, was discovered on March 2 under mysterious circumstances. It was found in the field of Bodhan Kumar outside the village, within the limits of the Ghazipur police station in Fatehpur district. Following this discovery, an FIR was registered under sections 103(1) and 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against unknown persons.
Detailed Police Investigation Unravels the Crime
After conducting thorough investigations, including surveillance and phone-call analysis, police claimed that the mother and brother forcibly took Farzana to a pulses field. In the intervening night of March 1 and 2, they allegedly forced her to consume a powder containing sulphas, leading to her death. Post-murder, they shifted her body to another field to conceal the crime.
Following the killing, the mother moved to Fatehpur, while the brother returned directly home. On March 2, in what police describe as a planned conspiracy, the mother arrived from Fatehpur and approached Ghazipur police to report her daughter's killing. Ironically, when police asked them to register an FIR, both the mother and son expressed unwillingness, claiming they did not want any legal procedure.
Evidence and Motive Behind the Murder
Police analyzed the Call Detail Records (CDR) and locations of both suspects, finding they were in constant touch with each other after leaving the crime scene separately. After thorough investigations and evidence collection, Fatehpur police uncovered that Farzana was allegedly killed by her mother and brother. The motive was reportedly anger over her relationship with a Hindu man.
Cops stated that Farzana's mother and brother forced her to consume sulphas powder due to fears linked to her interfaith relationship and concerns over social reputation. This case highlights the tragic consequences of societal pressures and intolerance in some communities.
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation
The arrests were made based on substantial evidence gathered during the investigation. Police are continuing their probe to ensure all aspects of the case are thoroughly examined. The suspects are currently in custody, and further legal actions are underway as per the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita provisions.
This incident has drawn attention to issues of honor-based violence and interfaith relationships in the region, prompting calls for stricter enforcement of laws against such crimes. Authorities urge the public to report any similar incidents to prevent such tragedies in the future.
