In a brazen late-night incident that has sent shockwaves through the industrial city, a man was violently assaulted and robbed of his motorcycle by a gang of miscreants in Ludhiana. The attack, captured chillingly on CCTV, occurred near a petrol pump on Tibba Road, highlighting concerns over street crime.
The Midnight Ambush: A Terrifying Ordeal
The victim, identified as Habib, a resident of Guru Arjan Dev Nagar on Jagirpur Road, was on his way to meet relatives in the Gulabi Bagh area. At approximately 12.40 am on Wednesday night, his journey took a horrific turn. As per his statement to the police, he was suddenly surrounded by six to nine miscreants riding on three motorcycles near the petrol pump.
Without provocation, the assailants launched a vicious attack. They were armed with sharp-edged weapons and used them to overpower Habib before snatching his motorcycle. The entire episode unfolded with alarming speed and brutality, leaving the victim injured and traumatized.
CCTV Footage Reveals Chilling Sequence of Events
The area's surveillance system provided a grim visual account of the crime. The footage initially shows the victim riding his bike on Gopal Nagar Road. A motorcycle carrying three youths then approaches him from the opposite direction. In a sudden move, one of the assailants is seen kicking the victim, causing him to lose balance and fall onto the road.
The situation escalated rapidly. Within moments, two more motorcycles arrived at the spot, bringing the total number of attackers to between six and nine. The CCTV video shows the group surrounding the helpless victim and subjecting him to a repeated assault, even as an auto-rickshaw passed by the scene. The attackers appeared completely undeterred by the potential witness.
Aftermath and Police Investigation
After assaulting Habib, the gang made their escape. Three of the attackers fled the scene on the victim's stolen motorcycle, while the remaining accused sped away in another direction on their own bikes. The swift and coordinated nature of the crime suggests a planned operation.
SHO of Tibba police station, Inspector Amarjit Singh, confirmed that the complainant recorded his formal statement on Thursday. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway. The police are meticulously scanning the available CCTV footage from the vicinity to identify the culprits and gather crucial clues that could lead to their arrest.
