Nagpur ACB Nabs Two MSEDCL Officials in Bribery Sting Operation

In a significant crackdown on corruption, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Nagpur successfully apprehended two officials from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (MSEDCL), commonly known as Mahavitaran, on Thursday. The officials were caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2.90 lakh from a contractor.

Details of the Bribery Case

According to the official complaint, the accused individuals have been identified as Ganesh Dorle, 59, who holds the position of Additional Executive Engineer (Grade-2), and Sumit Rewatkar, a Junior Engineer (Grade-3). Both officials are employed in the human resource department of MSEDCL's Butibori Zone-2 office.

The bribe was reportedly demanded to facilitate the clearance of a medical bill for a contractor who had suffered a hand injury in a workplace accident. While processing the medical bill, the officials allegedly solicited Rs 2.90 lakh as an illicit payment, exploiting their authority to delay or approve the necessary paperwork.

ACB's Swift Action and Trap

Upon receiving the complaint, the ACB acted promptly and set up a meticulous trap to catch the accused in the act. The operation was executed under the expert guidance of senior police officials, including:

  • Additional SP Digambar Pradhan
  • Maithili Baviskar
  • Vijay Mahulkar

The entire sting was supervised by Police Inspector Mayur Chourasiya and his dedicated team, ensuring a seamless and lawful apprehension. Both officials were nabbed red-handed while accepting the bribe money, providing concrete evidence for the case.

Legal Proceedings and Implications

Following the successful trap, the ACB has registered a formal case against Ganesh Dorle and Sumit Rewatkar under the stringent provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act. This incident highlights ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat corruption within public sector undertakings, particularly in critical departments like human resources where such malpractices can severely impact employees and contractors.

The case underscores the vulnerabilities faced by contractors and workers in dealing with bureaucratic processes, and serves as a stern warning to other officials engaged in similar illicit activities. Authorities continue to investigate the matter to uncover any further details or potential accomplices.
