A multi-vehicle collision on the Indore-Ahmedabad four-lane highway near Naugaon police station in Dhar late Tuesday night left two women injured after vehicles piled up on a single carriageway being used for two-way traffic due to ongoing railway overbridge construction.
Accident Details
According to police, a vehicle travelling from Indore towards Ahmedabad was negotiating a cut point created for railway overbridge work when a container truck coming from the opposite direction entered the stretch from the wrong side. Eyewitnesses said that the vehicle driver lost control while trying to avoid the container and climbed onto the divider.
The impact triggered a chain reaction as a speeding SUV following the vehicle rammed into it. The collision severely damaged the SUV and both its airbags were deployed. Several other vehicles and a motorcycle coming behind it were also caught in the pile-up.
Rescue and Response
Guman Singh Dawar, owner of a hotel near the accident spot, said that he rushed to the scene after hearing a loud crash and, along with others, helped the injured and alerted Naugaon police and 108 ambulance service. A woman travelling in the SUV and another woman riding a motorcycle sustained injuries and were taken to the district hospital. They were discharged after receiving primary treatment.
Naugaon police reached the spot and removed damaged vehicles from the carriageway. Traffic on the highway, which had come to a standstill, was gradually restored.
