The high-profile investigation into a Mumbai drug bust case, which saw the summoning of celebrities including Siddhant Kapoor and socialite Orry, has reportedly reached a standstill. The probe, which gained momentum in late 2025, has seen little progress since the statements of the two individuals were recorded, with police citing evasive responses and upcoming civic elections as major hurdles.
Evasive Statements and a Stalled Probe
According to police officials, while detailed statements from Siddhant Kapoor, son of veteran actor Shakti Kapoor, and Orry were recorded in November 2025, the duo was found to be "not forthcoming" and "evasive." An officer involved stated that the investigation has technical data in hand, but a crucial decision remains pending: whether to name the two as formal witnesses or as accused in the case.
The case stems from allegations made by Mohammad Sohail Shaikh alias 'Lavish', a key accused in a narcotics case who was deported last year. Lavish claimed that several celebrities, including actors and politicians, attended "drug parties." While his claims led to Kapoor and Orry being summoned, the names of other prominent figures that allegedly surfaced have not yet been called for questioning.
Elections Take Priority, Chargesheet Awaited
Sources indicate that any significant movement in the case is now expected only after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, due on January 15, 2026. The police force is currently prioritising law and order duties, including action against criminals and weapon seizures, in the pre-election period. This has effectively put the drug probe on the backburner.
Furthermore, no chargesheet has been filed in this offshoot case, which is linked to the massive Rs 252 crore Sangli factory drug bust. The original case was registered by the Mumbai Police's Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) in 2022. The officer added that Lavish faces several cases, and chargesheets will be filed by the concerned units as each investigation concludes.
Uncertain Future for the Investigation
The path forward remains unclear. Senior officials will decide on summoning other individuals named by Lavish based on the findings of the ongoing probe. The "technical data" mentioned by police could include digital evidence like call records or messages, which might be pivotal in determining the next steps.
This case, which simmered for two years before erupting with Lavish's deportation, continues to be a source of anxiety for sections of Bollywood and political circles. For now, the spotlight has dimmed, with the investigative machinery diverted to election security, leaving the questions raised by the accused dealer largely unanswered.
