Mumbai Police Cracks Down on Illegal Medical Practice in Govandi
In a decisive action against fraudulent healthcare providers, the Mumbai Crime Branch's Unit 6 conducted a targeted operation on Friday, resulting in the arrest of two individuals who were illegally practicing medicine in the Shivajinagar area of Govandi. The accused, identified as Rajiv Kapildeo Ranjan (34) and Kubernath Gomati Yadav (56), were apprehended while actively examining patients and administering treatments at their respective clinics, despite lacking any legitimate medical qualifications or licenses.
Simultaneous Raids Uncover Fraudulent Activities
Acting on reliable intelligence, a specialized police team from Unit 6, in collaboration with the assistant medical officer from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's M Ward (East), executed coordinated raids on both clinics. During these operations, officers discovered the accused engaged in diagnosing and treating patients for various medical conditions, while charging substantial consultation fees. This unauthorized practice was conducted without any approval or recognition from the Maharashtra Medical Council, highlighting the severe breach of medical regulations.
Evidence Seized and Legal Action Initiated
The raids led to the confiscation of a significant quantity of medical supplies, including injection bottles, syringes, and antibiotic tablets, which were being used in the illicit treatments. Both individuals have been formally charged under Sections 33 and 36 of the Medical Practice Act, 1961, with separate First Information Reports (FIRs) registered at the Shivajinagar Police Station. This legal action underscores the authorities' commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring that only qualified professionals provide medical services.
The crackdown serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by unlicensed practitioners, who not only exploit vulnerable patients but also risk lives through improper medical care. The Mumbai Police have emphasized that such operations will continue to root out similar fraudulent activities across the city, urging citizens to verify the credentials of healthcare providers before seeking treatment.
