The Mumbai Police have dismantled a fraudulent call centre operating from Uttarakhand's Dehradun and apprehended 11 individuals accused of cheating job seekers, an official stated on Wednesday.
How the Scam Came to Light
The operation was uncovered after a Mumbai-based woman filed a complaint with the Mankhurd police station, alleging she was defrauded between January and February. The accused promised her a job with a private airline and coerced her to transfer approximately Rs 2.5 lakh as part of the purported recruitment process, police said.
When the promised job did not materialize and the suspects ceased responding to her inquiries, the woman approached the authorities, triggering an investigation.
Raids and Arrests
A team from Mumbai Police conducted a raid at a location in Uttarakhand's capital, Dehradun, leading to the bust of the illegal call centre. Police arrested 11 individuals linked to the facility and seized nine laptops, 13 mobile phones, and other incriminating evidence from the premises.
According to the Mankhurd police official, the call centre was specifically targeting job aspirants, luring them with false employment opportunities.
Ongoing Investigation
The police are continuing their investigation to uncover the full extent of the scam and identify any other victims. Further details are awaited as the probe progresses.
