Mumbai Police Swiftly Intervene to Save Mother and Son from Suicide Bid
In a dramatic rescue operation, the Mumbai police saved a woman and her three-year-old son from a suicide attempt following a domestic dispute over her husband's alleged extra-marital affair. The incident unfolded on the night of March 29 in the Bhendi Bazar area of south Mumbai, within the jurisdiction of the J J Marg police station.
Neighbors' Alert Leads to Timely Police Action
Neighbors in the building near Bhendi Bazar made a crucial call to the police control room, reporting suspicious activity. This prompt alert triggered a rapid response from law enforcement officers, who arrived at the scene and broke open the door to the woman's residence. Upon entering, they discovered the woman had tied dupattas around her own neck and her son's, attaching them to the ceiling fan while standing on a bed.
The woman, in her mid-30s, was inside the flat with her younger son, while her husband and their 13-year-old older son were outside at the time. When questioned by the police, she explained that she took this drastic step under severe stress due to ongoing domestic disputes centered on her husband's alleged extra-marital affair.
Police Team Coordinates Rescue and Counselling Efforts
Police constable Kiran Pote played a key role by informing an officer at the J J Marg police station about the urgent situation. The rescue was managed by a team including inspector Rahul Pawar and woman sub-inspector Usha Chavan, who attended to the woman and her son immediately after the intervention.
Following the rescue, police sub-inspector Anjali Babar counselled the couple to address the underlying issues. The woman's in-laws subsequently took her home, ensuring she received support from family members. This incident highlights the critical importance of community vigilance and swift police action in preventing tragedies.
The Mumbai police's quick response not only saved two lives but also underscored the need for effective mental health support and conflict resolution in domestic settings. Such cases often stem from prolonged emotional distress, making timely intervention essential.
