A 67-year-old woman was fatally injured after being struck by a speeding vehicle in Goregaon East on Monday. The incident occurred while she was crossing the road with relatives. Vanrai police have registered a case of rash driving and negligence against the driver, identified as Sahil Karande (28).
Victim Identified
The deceased has been identified as Rehana Kachwala, a resident of Motilal Nagar. On Monday, around 3 pm, Rehana, along with her sister-in-law Amina (66) and Amina's granddaughter Mariyam (15), visited the municipal Muslim Kabrastan in Goregaon East to offer prayers at Amina's mother's grave.
Accident Details
While returning home, Amina and Mariyam crossed the road first, with Rehana following behind. As they crossed towards the service road subway, a vehicle speeding from Aarey check naka struck Rehana. She sustained severe bleeding from her forehead and hand, along with bruises on her arms and legs, and lost consciousness.
Driver's Actions
Karande stopped the vehicle after the accident. Bystanders helped carry Rehana into the car, and Karande, who works as a driver, took her to a private hospital. At the hospital, doctors diagnosed a rib fracture and moved her to the Intensive Critical Care Unit (ICCU). Amina began contacting relatives to inform them of the accident.
Death and Legal Action
Meanwhile, Karande left the hospital. Doctors later found that blood had accumulated in Rehana's chest, and she succumbed to her injuries around 6:30 pm. Vanrai Police were informed and subsequently registered a case against Karande for rash driving and negligence.
