Mumbai: Woman Dies in Jogeshwari Road Accident, Truck Driver Arrested

A tragic road accident in Mumbai's Jogeshwari West area claimed the life of a young woman on Friday night. The victim, identified as 20-year-old Nazneen Khan, succumbed to fatal injuries after a cement mixer truck struck the motorcycle she was riding pillion on.

Details of the Fatal Collision

The incident occurred on December 5 at around 9:30 PM on Veera Desai Road. According to the First Information Report (FIR), Khan was riding pillion on a motorcycle driven by her friend, 35-year-old Hafiz Tanwar. As Tanwar attempted to overtake the cement mixer truck from the left side near the Lotus building at the Gundecha signal, the truck driver, 29-year-old Sikander Pandit, allegedly swerved left, resulting in a collision.

The impact caused both riders to fall onto the road. In a horrifying turn of events, the rear tyre of the truck ran over Nazneen Khan's head, causing critical injuries. Tanwar also sustained minor injuries in the accident.

Victim's Background and Immediate Aftermath

Nazneen Khan, a resident of Andheri West, worked at a grocery store in Lokhandwala Complex. She had initially met Hafiz Tanwar, a mall salesman, when she was an intern at the Nature's Basket store in Andheri West in February 2024. The two had remained friends and met occasionally.

On the fateful day, Khan had called Tanwar after college, asking to meet in Andheri East. After riding around Aarey Garden and Versova, they were headed to her home after a call from her family around 9 PM. The accident occurred while Tanwar was dropping her off.

Police immediately rushed the critically injured Khan to Cooper Hospital in Juhu, where doctors declared her dead before admission.

Legal Action and Charges Filed

The Amboli police swiftly arrested the truck driver, Sikander Pandit, in connection with the case. He was later released on bail. The police have registered a case against Pandit under BNS section 106, which pertains to causing death by negligence.

This tragic incident has once again highlighted the grave dangers on Mumbai's roads, particularly for two-wheeler riders sharing space with heavy vehicles. It underscores the urgent need for heightened road safety measures and stricter enforcement of traffic rules to prevent such preventable loss of young lives.
